Leander TV Mounting

Why Mount a TV

Setting a TV on an entertainment stand or other piece of furniture can be dangerous as you run the risk of it tipping over, potentially causing damage to your TV, and harm to anyone or anything close by. Mounting your TV on the wall is safer and a more elegant look for your home.

Types of Mounts

Once you’ve decided to mount your TV, your next step is to choose your mount. You need to make sure the mount is compatible with the size TV you have or want to get. There are several different styles of TV mounts, each has its pros and cons depending on what you want for your room. A flush mount is a sturdy, low profile option, but it makes it difficult to access the back of your TV, and it is fixed in one position. Many mounts have rotating arms so the TV can be adjusted to different positions, pulled out away from the wall, making it easy to access the back panel to plug and unplug different audio and video cables.

Wall Types

One very important factor to consider is what type of wall the TV is to be mounted on. If your wall is brick, cinder block, concrete, or plywood, you should have quite a bit of flexibility in where you place the TV, but will need to use the appropriate anchors. However, if the wall is studded drywall (which most homes are) the options of where to place the TV will be somewhat limited.

Anchor Points

Once you’ve determined the size of the television to be mounted and the type of wall being mounted to, there’s one more factor to consider. Assuming you are mounting onto a studded sheetrock wall, you’ll need to know where the studs are located to determine where and how to mount the TV. Some designs have anchor points spaced 16 inches apart (which is the standard spacing between studs). Other designs have anchor points less than 16 inches apart, in this case you will be able to secure one side into the stud, but will need to use hollow wall fasteners for the other side. Yet another mount style can be mounted onto a single stud. This is one of the most popular options because, but only works if there is a stud centered where you want to place your TV.

Ready to Mount

Now that you are ready to mount your TV, you will need a few basic tools; power drill and driver with various bits, stud finder, level, tape measure, pencil, eye protection, and the appropriate hardware. We often get calls from people who started a project like this and were not able to finish on their own. Why not skip the hassle and headache? Just give us a call and we’ll take care of it for you!
